Sexism in Society

Actualizado: 27 abr 2022

What is sexism?

Machismo is a belief or behavior in which women are discriminated against or belittled, considering them inferior to men. Machismo is formed by old ideas, where there is the mentality that women should have a submissive or obedient attitude towards men, some of these cases can reach physical or psychological aggression.

These macho ideas were created by patriarchal societies in which women lost their say in political, economic, and family matters. Societies felt that by the simple fact of being born over the male sex, they could take away women's rights, act and think fo

r her and treat them as insignificant beings who only existed to serve, making them their slaves and sometimes even prisoners.

This type of behavior was given to the children which made them grow up with this thought as something common and current generating that they had the same behaviors, later on, the girl's submissive actions and the boy's dominant actions.

How to deal with it?

To begin to deal with machismo, the most important thing is not the laws, the most important thing is learning the first years of a child, what is shown and taught influences the rest of his life.

The educational issue in childhood is the origin of all adult personalities, that is why the change in macho thinking must start at home and at school.

In homes, equality between mother and father should be shown, in schools there should be no favoritism for any of the genders.

So since children are born until they grow up, it's time to teach them the importance of respect and show them that for the simple fact of being a woman they don't have to be submissive and servile or that for the simple fact of being a man they have to always be strong and dominant.
